Acceptable Technology Use Policy
What is an acceptable use policy?
An Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) is an important document which governs students’ use of the internet at school and covers a wide range of issues surrounding the rights, responsibilities and privileges – as well as sanctions – connected with computer use.
An acceptable use policy (AUP) outlines, in writing, how a school or district expects its community members to behave with technology. A typical AUP has a section where students and parents sign the document, in acknowledgement that they are aware of students' restrictions to network access and releasing the school district of responsibility for students who choose to break those restrictions.
User Responsibilities - "Do's and Don'ts"
· Do use the network in accordance with the school's code of conduct.
· Do cite the sources of information properly.
· Do use the network only for legal activity.
· Do be courteous and respectful in your messages to others.
· Do use appropriate language. Do not swear, use vulgarities, or any other inappropriate language.
· Do not degrade or disrupt equipment or system performance.
· Do not load personal software onto district computers.
· Do not attempt to change computer settings or configurations.
· Do not knowingly place a virus on any computer or in the Internet
